Is Photoshop and other photo manipulation right or wrong? Lately in our society it seems that most is beginning to argue that photo manipulation is wrong. I personal believe that it neither, in fact i believe that the current societal outcry against photo manipulation is aimed at the wrong problem. Photo manipulation is simply a tool and tools can be used incorrectly, today this tool is being used to put false images of perfection in todays pop culture magazine, television, ads, and basically anywhere else that show cases flawless perfection within people. Unfortunately this tool of photo manipulation was used in wrong ways in these circumstances, same as is a wrench was used to hammer a nail into two pieces of wood.

Deborah Tysor is a Masters student at the University of Utah who is pursuing a masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Deborah grew up in Central California in the city of Davis. She chose the PRT program at the University of Utah based on her research that showed, of the few schools that offered this program; the University of Utah had the best PRT program. She enjoys hiking, cycling, running, reading and working with others. This is part of the reason why she had chose to pursue a degree in the parks, recreation, and tourism with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation but there was more that influenced this choice. The biggest motivator for Deborah came after she had spent 18 months in Pakistan teaching the locals. Once she had returned, she received some recreation therapy from her mother. After she received this therapy, she realized how effective and helpful recreation therapy could be and chose to turn her love of helping people into a career in therapeutic recreation. Another inspiration for her choice came from her participation in a couple outdoor-based programs. On of these programs was the High Sierra alternative learning program, which moved the classroom outdoors in the attempt to promote a relaxing learning environment. The other is the Outward Bound program, which also moved the classroom outside to promote learning. After participating in these programs, Deborah learned how powerful the outdoors is as a therapy tool. Deborah is enjoying her experience in the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism and would like to offer the following advise to her fellow students in the PRT program, “Don’t complain about your education and make the best of the experience. It is not a considerably long experience so you need to focus on what’s in front of you rather than what you dislike. Education is a privilege and you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to utilize it, take advantage.” High Sierra Link: http://www.apu.edu/highsierra/ Yellow Dog Fly Fishing is a travel agency that specializes in booking trips for fly fishermen and women all around the world. With this sight customers can find their destination they would like to visit and than book their trip all within the same website. To do this they have to utilize the AIDA (Attention, Interest, desire, and action) concept to attract their customers and move them to act upon their visit to the site.
Attraction: Yellow Dog Fly Fishing gains the attention of their viewers quickly by having an animated header that is cycling through pictures with captions of the trips they have booked for their customers. This header immediately will catch the visitors attention and keep them on the webpage. Interest: On this website they give very clear tabs so you can find exactly what you are looking for. In each tab there is sufficient information but will redirect you further into the sight to gain more information. I personally find this website to be very drawing and find myself spending a good deal of time on this website because it interests me. Desire: The desire portion of this concept is very apparent. Desire refers the over all appearance of your website. Visitors to websites prefer websites that are well designed and have consistent designs. This website does exactly that. I have found the entire sight to follow an appealing format that is not over bearing or under developed and boring. Action: The last concept to utilize in a website is action. The call to action is ultimately what sales what ever the website is offering whether it be services, product, or even oneself. Yellow Dog Fly Fishing calls it viewers to action by giving them an option to book a trip right there on their website and giving them incentives such as discounts for the services they sale if the trip is booked for a particular place and/or time. Based on my evaluation of Yellow Dog Fly Fishing, I feel like this company effectively utilized the AIDA concepts outlined her to better their website and increase there sales. |
