Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT)
Standard 7.01: Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.
PRT 3100 Foundation of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism:
Course Reflection: In this course I was taught the history of parks, recreation, and tourism from as early as the athenian and protestant ideals and the views of recreation held by Aristotle. During this course we had also discussed the types of industries within the field of park, recreation and tourism such as: nonprofit and for-profit organizations
Course Description: An introduction to public, nonprofit, for-profit organizations as well as an in-depth look at the history and development of parks, recreation and tourism.
Standard 7.02: Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that facilitate targeted human experiences and that embrace personal and cultural dimensions of diversity.
PRT 3310 Leisure Behavior and Human diversity:
Course Reflection: In this course we discussed the views and abilities of different populations such as: race, age, sex, religion, etc on leisure and recreation. Focus was also placed on social and psychological roles that leisure and recreation played within these societies.
Course Description: exploration of leisure and recreation as well as the social and psychological impacts across a variety of population.
Standard 7.03: Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about operations and strategic management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions.
PRT 3207 Management in PRT:
Course Reflection: In this course we spent a great deal of time on the management of a company and its employees. In this course we learned basic management techniques in motivations and employee development.
Standard 7.04: Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate, through a comprehensive internship of not less than 400 clock hours and no fewer than 10 weeks, the potential to succeed as professionals at supervisory or higher levels in park, recreation, tourism, or related organizations.
PRT 3800/4828 Co-Op Education I/II (Small & Large Internship)
Course Reflections: In these two courses i spent time working as an employee for Full Draw Archery and Sportsman's Warehouse. This had given me experience i both the the front end of a small shop such as Full Draw Archery and the corporate end of a large nation wide company such as Sportsman's Warehouse.
